The School of Information of Shanxi University of Finance and Economics was initially founded in 1984, which was formerly known as the Department of Information Management of Shanxi Institute of Finance and Economics and the Department of Economic Information Management of Shanxi Institute of Economics and Management. The School firstly recruited undergraduate students in 1984 as well as postgraduate students in 1999 and has cultivated nearly 20000 outstanding talents, making important contributions to national and local economic construction and social development.

The School currently has authorization points for academic master's degree in Information Resources Management (formerly known as "Library, Information and Archives Management") and Computer Application Technology, and authorization points for professional master's degree in Library and Information Science, wherein Information Resources Management is the provincial key construction discipline and both Library and Information Science and Computer Application Technology are the key disciplines of the University. At present, only the University has the qualification to recruit postgraduate students in academic degree related to Information Resources Management among financial and economic universities and colleges nationwide. There are four undergraduates programs namely Computer Science and Technology, Information Management and Information Systems, E-Commerce, Data Science and Big Data Technology. Among the programs, Computer Science and Technology, Information Management and Information Systems, E-Commerce have been selected as national first-class undergraduate majors of the "Shuangwan Plan".

The School has a strong faculty team with excellent political qualities, outstanding professional abilities, reasonable structure, excellent academic qualifications, and full vigour. There are currently 84 faculty members, 73 full-time teachers and 2 part-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 8 professors and 28 associate professors, with a doctoral rate of 63%. There are 3 doctoral supervisors and 44 master's supervisors, 3 university teaching masters in Shanxi Province, 1 outstanding young talent in Shanxi Province, 1 academic leader in Shanxi Province, and 2 young academic leaders from Shanxi Province. One teacher has been selected for the Shanxi Province Outstanding Youth Program, two teachers have been selected for young outstanding talents under the "Three Jin Talents" Support Program, and one teacher has been selected for Shanxi Province Youth Science and Research Personnel Training Program.

The School is closely aligned with the characteristics of finance and economics, exploring the frontiers of disciplines and achieving fruitful results in both teaching and scientific research. The discipline of Information Resources Management has formed distinct characteristics in the fields of economic information management, network information resource management and utilization, e-commerce services, data and knowledge management, while the discipline of Computer Science and Technology has formed distinct characteristics in complex network computing, data mining and business intelligence, information security, image processing, and other fields. The School has established a series of academic brand activities, including "Information Resource Management·100-minute Forum for First-Class Scholars", "Computer and Big Data Science Academic Forum" and “"Information Science Frontier Youth Scholar Lecture Hall”. In the past 5 years, we have won a total of 26 national-level projects and over 100 provincial and ministerial-level projects. The faculty members have published over 100 high-level academic papers in important academic journals such as Mis Quarterly, Journal of Informetrics, Knowledge-Based Systems, Current Science, Computers and Mathematics with Applications, International Journal of Systems Science, Mathematical Problems in Engineering, Soft Computing, Frontiers in Physics, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Acta Mathematica Scientia, Journal of Business & Industrial Marketing, Building Research and Information, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, International Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, International Journal of Theoreticial Physics, Journal of Real Time Image Processing, Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience, Journal of the Franklin Institute, Journal of Library Science of China, Journal of Information Science, Archival Science Research, Journal of Software, and Journal of Electronics. The School received one first prize of Shanxi Province Social Science Research Excellent Achievement Award, the "Hundred Projects" Award for Shanxi Province Social Science Research Excellent Achievement, multiple Shanxi Province Higher Education Science Research Excellent Achievement Awards (Humanities and Social Sciences), as well as one special prize, five first prizes, and one second prize of Shanxi Province Teaching Achievement Award.

The School has set five teaching and research departments, including Information Management and Information Systems, Computer Science and Technology, E-commerce, Data Science and Big Data Technology, and University Computer Fundamentals, administrative institutions such as the General Office and the College Youth League Committee, as well as six non physical research institutions including Computer Application Research Institute, Big Data and Computer Intelligence Research Institute, Blockchain Technology Research Center, Artificial Intelligence and Complex Network Analysis Research Institute, Business Intelligence Social Service Research Institute and Digital Products and Services Research Institute.

The School places a high premium on the cultivation of students' innovative spirit and practical ability, and actively promotes the construction of laboratories and internship bases. There are professional laboratories such as Big Data Basic Research Laboratory, Internet of Things Laboratory, Computer Principles Laboratory, Embedded Laboratory, and E-commerce Simulation Laboratory. And the off-campus internship bases include Lanzhou Document Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chengdu Document Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanxi Tongfang Zhiwang Digital Publishing Technology Co., Ltd., Jinshang Bank Co., Ltd., Shanxi Youyike Technology Co., Ltd., Shanxi Sisoft Technology Co., Ltd., Shanxi Jinshanhang Technology Co., Ltd., Beijing Sinosoft International Education Technology Co., Ltd., and Shanxi Zhonghui Digital Intelligence Technology Co., Ltd., etc.
